We'll meet for our first time, understand the organization of the course, and be introduced to the principles of adult learning.
Workshop One Objectives
- Upon completion of Workshop One, each student should be able to:
- List the characteristics of the adult learner.
- Compare and contrast pedagogy with andragogy.
- Analyze previous learning experiences against principles of andragogy.
- Define self-directed learning.
- Identify personal sources of motivation.
- Identify resources and tools that support self-directed learning.
Workshop One Assignments
The following assignments are to be completed prior to Workshop One
- Individual
- Read chapter 1 (Conner) and the exercises contained in the chapter.
- Read chapter 7 (Conner) and come prepared to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of a "learning" community.
- Identify and be prepared to share your personal motivations for learning.
- Read and be prepared to discuss the Zielinski article "Adult Learning: What do we know for sure?" (Handout provided by instructor).
- Write a 2-3 page paper about your decision to attend Warner Pacific College, your expectations, your concerns and your goals. This paper should be typed, double-spaced, 12 point font.
