Colophon and Credits

Introduction

In book publishing, a colophon details what font the book is set in and what tools were used to produce the book.

This Web site is set in Verdana font. The base font size is 11 pixels and is laid out using Cascading Style Sheets (CSS1 and CSS2) and div's.

Inspirations

I am inspired by Mr. Buck Garrett, a former Director of Academic Affairs at Heald College, Portland Oregon campus. Buck asked me two years ago to teach the then inaugural course, Internet Studies (C245). I agreed to try it, not really having any clear idea what I was getting into! It soon became apparent that, in order to teach my students most effectively, I needed to design, create, and maintain a Web site like this one. I needed to be walking the talk. And so I have since the summer of 2000. So, thank you, Buck, for the opportunity to learn about and be competent with this awesome world of the World Wide Web.

Eric Meyer, see http://www.meyerweb.com, has been an inspiration shedding critical light on the tremendous power of CSS to design and inform the layout of my Web site. Thank you Eric.

Most importantly, my wonderful wife Carol is my sometimes editor and constant supporter. Her feedback on my designs have motivated me immeasurably.

My students, too, significantly inspire me. They are my audience, and they are always giving me feedback on my design. Sometimes directly, but more predominately through my observations of their experiences on my Web site. No focus group for me. Simply my audience, up front and personal. My audience is the set of students I teach at Heald College, Portland, Oregon campus.

Credits

I must give credit to Eric Meyer's CSS work. His work has informed the evolution of my Web site to CSS based.

This work is mine alone (Mr. Richard J. Wersinger) and is my property.

The course descriptions, objectives, and requirements are provided by Heald College of San Francisco, CA.

Tools

I use an Apple Computer Macintosh G4 350 running Mac OS 10.3 and an Apple iBook G4 800.

The software used to create this Web site include on my Mac:
Macromedia's Dreamweaver MX 2004, Fireworks MX 2004, Apple's Simpletext, Microsoft's Word v.10. PowerPoint v.10, and Excel v.10.

I also use Macromedia's Dreamweaver MX 2004 on Win XP Professional, and Microsoft Office 2003 suite of applications on WIN XP Professional PCs.

I also use Macromedia's Dreamweaver MX on PC running Windows OS 2000 to complete minor editing and file postings to my web server.

I test the Web site on Internet Explorer 5.2 MAC, Netscape Navigator 7.01 MAC, Safari 1.0 MAC, Internet Explorer 6.0 WIN XP Professional, Internet Explorer 6.0 WIN XP Home, and Netscape Navigator 6? WIN XP.

The Web site is written in and powered by:

Domains and Hosting

I initially purchased my domain, http://www.mrwteaches.net, through Earthlink.net. I now maintain the domain name through register.com.

I pay for the Web site's hosting at DreamHost.com.

The web server is an Apache running Unix operating system on a Sun Microsystems Solaris 8 computer.

I mostly use Macromedia's Dreamweaver MX's FTP features to post my Web site to my server.

Other Work in my Portfolio

I also designed and maintain my Design and Teaching Web site, RJWconsulting.org, the Greater Washington DC Men's Council Buffalo Gap Men's Gathering Web site, and the fledgling Wersingerfamily.us Web site.
